Taj Burrows through to the Quarter Finals

The Rip Curl Search from somewhere in Indo has been full of upsets. With Kelly Slater bowing out in round three and Parko,Andy, Mick and Bede getting retired in round 4. The door to jump back into the race for the 08` ASP title has slipped open.
Taj will face off against Chris Ward in heat 4 of the quarter`s, which looks to be a hell of a heat. Wardo took out A.I with a sick combo score, which saw Andy paddle in with 2mins left on the clock after throwing in his hat and going switchfoot on his last wave.

The swell is still charging, a clean 3-4ft, solid sets and a whole bunch of surfers who thrive in these conditions, who ever takes this one is going to have to push the limits. The past few years have seen so many events on the tour, being run due to time constraints in less then perfect conditions, but this years search event has been awesome, as it always seems to be. Well done to the crew at Rip Curl.

The top 5 seeds are out of the Billabong Pro Teahupoo

An amazing day of competition in 4-6ft hollow Teahupoo. The Irons brothers cruised into round 4 today looking so relaxed and at home in conditions which saw many of the worlds best look challenged. Parko took victory over rookie Tiago with an interference call that cost Tiago valuable points.

But the big news was the elimination in rounds 2 and 3 of the current top 5 ratings leaders.

  • Mick Fanning lost in the 2nd round to Bruno Santos in one of the events lowest scoring heats.
  • Jeremy Flores was taken out by an in form Chris Ward also in the second round.
  • After an electifying round 2 clash with Jamie O'Brien Kelly slater went down hard at the hands of Manoa Drollet in round 3, 9.83 to 14.00
  • Taj Burrows was taken down but an on fire Bruno Santos
  • Chris Ward took out Bede Durbidge in the 3rd round with an amazing upset victory of 19.17 to 7.30
With the top 5 down early in the competition the door has swang wide open for Parko currently seeded just 12 points behind Jeremy Flores and Taj Burrows who share an equal 4th in the overall ratings.

Kelly Rings his 3rd Bell, at the Rip Curl Pro, Bells Beach Australia

The heat opened up with Bede Durbidge taking a quick in and out for a 0.5 only to have Kelly Slater boom the next wave in the set and take it to the sand to log a 7.33.
Not to out done, Bede came back firing with a sick wave, throwing half his board over the lip, bombing a nice floater and finishing it all of with his trademark layback snap in the closeout beachie, dropping a bomby 8.83. and then backing it up with 6.33

Kelly came back with a nice one chasing a 7.84 but coming up short with a 7.23, looking for something better, Kelly made the paddle up to Rincon. A risky move that the master made work for him, Busting out a massive air, to land a an 8.3 and take the lead back from Bede. Leaving Bede, with priority chasing a 6.8 with 3 minutes to go! I was biting my nails by this point! Bede Caught his last wave with 15secs left on the clock, but only got a 3.67. Giving Kelly his 3rd bell and his second straight win on this years ASP pro tour!

Very few surfers in history have taken 3 bells home, putting Kelly Slater in the exclusive company of Mark Richards, Michael Peterson and Sonny Garcia, Making Kelly the 4th Ever surf to get the hat trick!

"it feels awesome! I thought Bede had me, I headed up to Rincon thinking oh Bede's got this one I may as well just head up there and see if anything breaks" Kelly said, "The Bell is arguable the greatest trophy to ever get in surfing"

Congrats Kelly, and Congrats Bede!
